A scary descent

I have been thinking all week of my long bike ride today. I wanted to do a 4 to 5 hrs bike ride, but I got stuck with some work, and need to get stuff done at the office on Saturday morning (I should not be blogging, I should be working right now. Oh well...) So a 2hr bike ride was all I could do. I left E sleeping (lazy bum), and went out at 6:15AM. I had not done my hilly ride in a while, so it seemed like a good idea. The sky was overcast, but I did not think that it was going to rain soon.

So everything went fine the first 18 miles, when I made it to the bottom of my 535ft ascent. It showed that I had not done this ascent in over a month, as I struggled to get to the top. One of the rewards of doing this ascent is that the descent is fast and fun. I have topped 42MPH coming down. But today, as I was starting the descent, rain came down fast and furious. So I was trying to slow down, but I did not want to brake too hard to avoid a sliding. I was still going 35MPH even trying to go slow.

When I made it to the bottom, I had two choices. I could cut the route short and go home, or I could finish my route (at that point, still 18 miles to go). Because I was already all wet, and there were no more significant climbs, I decided to finish. Made it home, wiped the bike, took a shower, and came to the office. E had already left for the pool. Later, I will clean and lube the bike.
